Champlain College is pleased to announce an agreement in principle for the renovation space for a student-led Fitness Room project. This room will serve the students and promote a healthy lifestyle by providing free access to the students a minimum of 50 hours per week. As a part of the agreement, Champlain College along with an Entente Canada-Quebec grant will provide the additional funding necessary to complete the project. Champlain College will manage the project and the Champlain Student Association (CSA) will contribute annually to the College from 2018 – 2028 through a special student levy. The Champlain College Foundation will continue to contribute annually to Emergency Student Loan Fund (ESLF) and the Food Bank to assist students experiencing financial challenges. “The Fitness Room project will greatly enhance the student experience at the College,” says Dean Howie, Director of Student Services at Champlain College “The Fitness Room will permit students with unlimited access to a fitness room at all times during their day. As we are seeing huge increases in student stress levels, the opportunity to lead a healthy lifestyle including exercise can only be beneficial.” The present fitness facility did not meet with the demands being open 5 hours per week in the Fall 2015 semester (80 hours total).  The winter 2016 semester had the facility open for a total of 120 hours or 7.5 hours per week.  During this time the fall semester saw 2100 visits and increased to 4500 visits in the winter with the extra hours.  The new project will permit 1 minimum of 800 hours of open time during a semester. “The CSA believes that the Fitness Room project will go a long way to promoting a healthy lifestyle, building community encouraging student athletes,  and provide great leadership opportunities for students as volunteers, in stage placements and employment says Ariane Dusablon, CSA President. More details concerning the project will be announced as they become available.  For more information, please do not hesitate to contact Student Services.
