Young Artists Awards

Black Theatre Workshop is once again giving out two awards and grants to emerging Black artists who reside in Montreal. The awards will be presented at the 31st annual Vision Celebration Gala which will take place on January 28, 2017. The awards are as follows: The Victor Phillips Award & Grant of $1000 is for an artist under the age of 20 who excels both in academics and in the performing arts (theatre, music, dance, spoken word or interdisciplinary arts.) The Gloria Mitchell-Aleong Award and $500 grant is for an emerging professional artist between the ages of 20-35 who demonstrates exceptional ability in the performing arts (theatre, music, dance, spoken word or interdisciplinary arts.) Redcross First Aid & CPR Level “C” Course

The Champlain First Aid Team will be offering a discounted Redcross First Aid & CPR Level C course during on Saturday, November 12, 2016 and Sunday, November 13, 2016. The course is a total of 16 hours and will educate you on advanced first aid techniques & CPR/AED. Cost of the course is $95.00. Deadline to register is Friday October 28, 2016 at 4L00 p.m. sharp. Congratulations to Samantha Rocher and Sarah Albos who tied for place for Champlain College’s in-house Math Contest. Both Samantha and Sarah are 1st year students in the Pure and Applied program. Leslie Vertes at Champlain

Leslie Vertes, a Holocaust survivor will be speaking about his life on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the Main Auditorium from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Although Leslie survived the Holocaust, he lost many family members in concentration camps. “It is painful to talk about the past I want to forget”, he says.  However, Leslie wants to tell his story so that people will be prepared to fight against the hatred and intolerance that still exists in the world today. This will be Leslie’s 12th time speaking at Champlain College Saint-Lambert.

Success at Open House

Champlain College Saint-Lambert had a very successful Open House on Sunday, November 6, 2016. Over 3,000 students and parents attended and had the opportunity to speak to teachers, academic advisors and have a guided tour. Thank you to all of the volunteer staff, faculty, coaches and students for making our Open House so successful. If you missed it, we will be holding an Information Evening on  Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 7 p.m. See you then!

Champlain College Saint-Lambert students from the Muslim club (MSA) as well as other clubs, came together to raise money for Islamic Relief Canada. The students organized various activities throughout the week such as henna tattoos, breakfast, a food festival, workshops and raised $ 2,450.00! Congratulations to all the students who worked so hard on raising money for such a great cause. The Champlain College Saint-Lambert Cavaliers football team lost by 3 points to the Gaillards from Cégep de Jonquière with a final score of 33-30, taking the 2016 RSEQ silver medal in College D3 football. Champlain College is very proud of all the athletes who worked so hard to get to the finals. A big thank you to all coaches, staff, athletes and amazing fans who participated this year. Champlain College students were on their way outside for a run to promote healthy lifestyle habits for the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie 2017. Students participating in the Grand défi, meet every Wednesday during freeblock (12:30 p.m.) for a run in order to get ready for the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie which will be taking place on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, 2017.  Over 5,000 students will be participating at this event. Champlain College Saint-Lambert’s  Model UN team attended this year’s Montreal United Nations Conference which was being held at Dawson College. The 3 day conference (from November 25-27),included a panel discussion with the theme: Getting involved in international affairs: two concrete examples – private arbitration, institutional negotiations. The Montreal United Nations Conference is an annual simulation of the United Nations, welcoming hundreds of delegates to debate important issues. Congratulations to all students who participated. Champlain College students had the opportunity to cook with chef Mounir Mahfouz as part of a the community kitchen project which was organized by  our FLIP team (First Year Leadership and Integration Program). The First Year Leadership and Integration Program welcomes new students to the Champlain College Saint-Lambert community by providing resources and activities to facilitate a successful transition into College life. FLIP encourages student participation in a variety of campus activities during the year and aims to build school spirit and a sense of community amongst its new members. Congratulations to Camille Cournoyer and Ariane Dusablon on being selected as semi-finalists by the Loran Scholars Foundation! Both Camille and Ariane will attend regional interviews in Montreal on December 4th as part of the selection process for the Loran Awards, Canada’s largest and most comprehensive undergraduate scholarship program. The Loran Scholars Foundation received 4,438 applications this year from schools across the country. Only the top 10% of candidates are selected as semi-finalists, based on evidence of character, service and leadership potential. After regional interviews, 84 students across Canada will be invited to interview at the national level. Up to 32 students will be chosen as Loran Scholars, after national interviews, with each scholar receiving a Loran Award valued at $100,000 over four years. The Loran Scholars Foundation is a national charity that identifies and supports young leaders of character. In addition to selecting Loran Scholars, it will grant up to 54 finalist awards ($3,000 each) and 40 provincial awards ($2,000 each) to promising candidates. Congratulations to Champlain College Saint-Lambert alumni Marie-Ève Bernard O’Breham who has received a bursary from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence.  The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence granted a total of $262,750 in individual bursaries to Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec – RSEQ student-athletes in 2016. Of this amount, 86 bursaries, totalling $230,750 were distributed this evening during the 31st Quebec University Sport Gala presented by RDS in association with TKNL. An additional $32,000 was also distributed to 10 university student-athletes in other FAEQ bursary programs throughout 2016. About the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence: UNITED FOR SUCCESS  The Foundation is unique thanks to its personal approach, diligent management, and influential role in the realm of sport and education. With a new five-year plan from 2015 to 2020, the Foundation’s primary goal is to increase by 35% the annual amount in bursary funds, and the annual number of bursary recipients. This year, 1,2 million dollars will be distributed to more than 450 student-athletes. The Foundation’s bursaries reward: academic excellence, encourage the balancing of high performance sport and academics, highlight leadership, recognize perseverance, and foster university recruitment. The FAEQ is moved to action by a genuine desire to unite with former bursary recipients and sponsors for the success of current bursary recipients, thereby making a difference in their academic, athletic, and/or personal development. Hélène Guay receives Medal

Hélène Guay, a Champlain College Saint-Lambert student received the “”Medaille académique du Gouverneur général du Canada” earlier this month. The medal is given to the student who has they highest average in secondary 4 and 5. Hélène had an overall average of 94.4%.
