The Cavaliers 2012-13 seasons officially drew to a close this past Wednesday with many athletes, friends, coaches, college staff and community members getting together at the annual Cavaliers Awards Banquet. With over 235 people in attendance to celebrate being a part of the Cavalier family, it was an awesome evening. The efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom and on the field of competition were well recognized as over 100 athletic and academic awards were presented. Team Awards handed out included: Most Improved Athlete Given to the student-athlete who has shown and demonstrated an improvement in their play and growth during the season. Unsung Hero Award Presented to the student-athlete who’s made a substantial, yet unrecognized contribution to the team. Fair Play Award Presented to a student-athlete who best exemplifies the principles and ideas of sportsmanship and leadership in and out of competition. Most Valuable Athlete Presented to the student-athlete who made an outstanding contribution to their specific team. Academic Excellence Presented to the student-athlete with the highest Cote-R on their team. Cassandra Bardo – Women’s Volleyball

Student-Athlete Cavaliers Women’s Volleyball Cassandra Bardo - Class of 1991 Cassandra attended Champlain College Saint-Lambert from 1988-1991 and was an integral part of the Women’s Volleyball team during her time here. Cassandra was a dedicated student-athlete with a tremendous work ethic. In 1991 she was name the Women’s Volleyball Most Valuable Player. She was also named Female Athlete of the Year in her senior year (1991) and graduated in that spring. While attaining her Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University, Cassandra played on their Women’s Volleyball team at the CIAU level for five years. She continued her dominance by being named an FQSE All-Star and by being named Concordia’s Female Athlete of the year in 1993 and 1996. Cassandra headed to Europe and continued to both play and coach at the Division 3 level in France, combining her love for the game with a career that involved volunteering and contributing to sport in the community. She moved up to Division 2 and  spent several years playing while working with a sport and leisure association. Until recently she was a practice partner for a Division 1 team in Toulouse, which she now calls home.

Champlain College Saint-Lambert’s Mel Berish has had her research on Bereavement Counseling published this summer. She has co-authored 2 articles that have been published in The Counseling Psychologist and in Death Studies. Mel can be found at Student Services on Mondays and Wednesdays: Death Studies (2013): Meaning-Based Group Counseling for Bereavement: Bridging Theory with Emerging Trends in Intervention Research, Death Studies. The Counselling Psychologist (2013): Means to Meaning in Cancer-Related Bereavement: Identifying Clinical Implications for Counseling Psychologists.

The 2013-14 season is just around the corner and the Cavaliers are gearing up for another action-packed season! Our 12 teams start competing on Aug. 24 as Football kicks off at home. This year, the 260 student-athletes of the Champlain College Saint-Lambert Cavaliers will play in over 200 combined games, competitions and tournaments over the season. The spaghetti supper fundraiser!

Please join us for another fundraiser for the Nicaragua project.  The traditional spaghetti supper fundraiser will take place this Saturday, October 26th, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., at Scotyz Bar and Grill (3979 Taschereau Blvd., St-Hubert). Come encourage our students while having all you can eat spaghetti, homemade desserts and an all together good time! Tickets are 10$, and you can purchase them from the project’s students or at the CSA (room F-118)
